Hello Rocky Top Families. I am Rebecca Shoshensky and I am really excited to be joining the Rocky Top Mental Health Team as their new Social Emotional Learning Specialist. When I am not supporting students, I enjoy time with my two elementary aged children as well as my two pet ferrets and dog. I also am an avid college football fan! I moved to Colorado in 2002 and there is nothing better than a great hike in the Colorado sunshine. In addition to my passion for family, football, and sunshine, I bring with me a host of mental health school experiences K-12. I earned a Masters in Counseling and Counselor Education from Indiana University (GO IU) and have worked as a School Counselor in the K-12 realm for over 20 years. I am happy to say most of my career has been supporting students through their most critical growing years, middle school. My most recent experience in Adams 12 was creating an Elementary School Counseling program at Thornton Elementary School. It was very exciting seeing the positive impact that social emotional skills brought to our students to improve safe problem solving and increase academic success. It became a seamless transition to move into the role as a Social Emotional Learning Specialist last year and continue to build on the foundations already created at the elementary level. But, most of my career has been in Middle School and the voice within me was telling me that it was time to go back and apply what I have learned to continue supporting the students I have grown with for most of my career. I am thrilled about joining the Rocky Top Family and continuing this very important work for our Middle School Students through the use of data and programming to ensure that by the time they leave they possess all the skills needed to enjoy academic success, peaceful problem solving, and perseverance through challenging times, as well as find joy in all the world has to offer. I truly look forward to partnering with you and our Rocky Top Team!!
