Dear Rocky Top Grizzlies,

We are excited to welcome new and returning Grizzlies to the 2022-23 school year! You are now part of an incredible community focused on working together to create a successful environment for every Grizzly every day.  

Though the most current information can always be found on the Rocky Top website, you'll find some very important documents linked to this email. It’s long, but PLEASE read all portions and be sure to click each of the links to other important documents and websites. 

  • Check out the calendar to find out when all the fun beginning-of-the-year events will take place. Notice that school pictures (for the yearbook and your school ID) will be taken on August 22nd, we will be sending out photo packages soon. Keep checking that calendar throughout the year to find out about school dances, the talent show and musical concerts.. 

  • Be sure to keep the 2022-23 Bell Schedule handy so you make it to class on time each day. The doors open at 8:50 AM everyday, the day typically ends at 4:15 PM, but students are finished early, at 2:45 PM, on Wednesdays. 

  • The Frequently Asked Grizzly Questions (¡Próximamente traducción al español!) document is packed with answers to the most common things students worry about prior to the start of school---if your question isn't answered there, feel free to call our main office at 720.972.2200. 

  • For even more information about school policies and procedures, please check out our Family/Student Handbook.

  • Finally, the attached Supply Lists indicates what you'll need to start the year on the right foot.
    NOTE: Every Grizzly will receive a Chromebook, provided by Adams 12, for use at school and at home throughout the entire 2022-23 school year. 

Friday, August 5th, your class schedule will be available to view and print through the Infinite Campus (IC) Portal IF you completed your online registration. 

  • If you login and your schedule does not appear, you must visit the Adams 12 Online Check-in page to complete the online check-in process. 

  • If, after ensuring you’ve completed the online check-in, you are still unable to login, contact the front office at 720.972.2200 to reset your password. 

On your schedule, or on other tabs within IC, you'll find your assigned classes, teachers' names, classroom locations, locker number and combination. If you haven't yet practiced using a combination lock, you may want to go get one. When you know how to do the right-left-right routine you'll be so much less stressed the first few days of school!

  • Changes in staffing have also resulted in a shift to various elective offerings. We have done our best to uphold the student requests for electives, but your Grizzly may notice some new and exciting courses on their schedule! 

  • There may be circumstances that require us to make a last minute change to your quarter 1 schedule due to ever-shifting student enrollment, however, we will contact you directly should that situation arise. 

  • Elective courses may shift slightly for quarters 2, 3 and 4 before those terms begin. You may also notice some holes in your schedule for these later terms and those classes will be filled in as we solidify our teaching team. 

  • If there is an issue with your class schedule for quarter 1 only (duplicate or missing classes will be given priority), feel free to complete a Class Change Request Form. Be aware that there is no guarantee we will be able to accommodate your request to change an elective class. Any requests for a change in core class placement will not be considered.  

  • If you are interested in learning your core name, please view THIS document. The easiest way to find your core name is to look at your Social Studies and Science teacher. 

We'll see all students for the first day on Tuesday, August 16th.  We will be following an early release day schedule.  

6th graders from 9:00 to 11:45 AM 

7th and 8th graders from 12:00 to 2:45 PM 

  • Busses will be running for both sessions, but no lunch will be served.

  • Please make sure students bring their fully charged district provided Chromebook with them. 

For the first week of school only - Wednesday will NOT be an early release day and students will be dismissed at 4:15.

  • In order to get you oriented to the building, we will welcome 6th graders only to our Exploring Grizzly Country open house on Monday, August 15th from 9:00 to 11:00 AM or between 1:00 and 3:00 PM. During either of those blocks of time you and your family may take a self-guided tour, practice your locker combination, drop off any school supplies, and enjoy a treat from our wonderful PTO.

  • A more traditional Back to School Night for 6th grade, Welcome to Grizzly Country, will take place Wednesday, September 7th from 4:30 to 6:30 PM. More specific details will be shared through our weekly newsletter, News from The Top, closer to the event date.

  • 7th and 8th grade  Back to School Night will be on Thursday, August 11th. Please note the staggered times by grade level: 4:30 to 6:30 PM for 7th graders only and 6:30 to 8:30 PM for 8th graders only. 8th grade teachers will not be available until 6:30, feel free to visit our library if you arrive early or during the transition from 7th to 8th grade. 

  • Students will have opportunities to access lockers during these events. A quick locker trick: If the combination begins to stick before reaching the third number, continue to turn and pull up on the handle to open. 

  • Any students who are new to Adams 12 or do not have a District provided Chromebook are encouraged to stop by the library to check out a device. You will also have the opportunity to pick one up at Back to School Night for 7th and 8th graders. Any students who do not have a device on the first days will be called down to the library to obtain their Chromebook and charger. 

NOTE: Families will accompany their Grizzly through an abbreviated version of their daily schedule. Please arrive on time!

USDA waivers allowing free school meals were not extended for this school year. Paid meals return for the 2022-2023 school year for those who don't qualify. If you think your family can benefit from and qualify for additional support in accessing school meals, please fill out THIS application for Free and Reduced lunch. If you have trouble understanding the form, please reach out to Adams 12 Nutrition Services (720-972-4123) or your student’s grade level counselor. 

Here at Rocky Top, we love getting families involved---even if your Grizzly thinks it’s embarrassing to have you at their school! If you’d like to become a member of the Rocky Top PTO, please email they'll let you know about upcoming meeting dates as well as volunteer opportunities. One of their first challenges is to collect school supplies and non-perishable snack items to be shared with students and staff throughout the year. Feel free to drop off donations in the large can located in the front lobby.
