Rocky Top Staff go above and beyond to welcome Newcomer
District staff from the Equity & Engagement department had the privilege of helping to facilitate a Newcomer Intake with a team of incredible staff at Rocky Top. That team included Lindsey Weihing, Priscila Garro (SFOP Community Resource Specialist), Emily Gruen-White, Talli Johnston, Rachel McNiff, Delilah Nowick, and Brian Shanahan.
The school staff were warm, welcoming, thoughtful, and detail-oriented in their approach to the Newcomer Intake conversation. Brian ensured that the family had an easy way to inform the school of absences in her native language, Talli advocated that the student arrive a little after the bell on his first day so he can experience a nice slow start, Priscila shared information regarding access to community resources that the family might be interested in, and so much more!
This story exemplifies our ELEVATE Focus Area: World-Class Staff. Sharing stories about how staff is compensated, supported and trained to foster student success and family partnerships.
