Class Expectations

• Students are responsible to have all the necessary equipment and materials at all times.  This includes instruments with all related materials (mouthpiece, reeds, drumsticks, mallets, cork grease, slide/valve lubricants, etc...)  Students should also always have a pencil, paper and a folder to keep any handouts they receive in class.  Quizzes on material presented will be a part of the students final grade.  Practice cards will also be a part of the students grade and will need to be handed in on time each week for full credit to be given.

• Student behavior should be mature and appropriate when dealing with teachers and peers.  Disrespectful and inappropriate behavior will not be tolerated.  Working in a group, for the good of the group, is one of the major objectives of any performance based music class .  First offenses will result in a warning and repeated offenses will result in disciplinary action.

• Students are to be in class and ready for work at the start of the period.  Attendance and participation points (absences, tardies, not having materials, discipline issues, etc...) will be given daily and will be a part of the students final grade.  Points lost due to excused absences may be made up with assignments given to the student by the director.  Points lost due to unexcused absences may not be made up.

• Attendance at all performances is required.  If you are enrolled in band, it is automatically assumed that you will perform.  Two weeks prior notification, in writing, will be required should a conflict arise.  Illness and emergencies are the only exceptions.  Points lost for an unexcused absence at a performance may not be made up.  Excused absences for a performance will result in a loss of performance points until a make-up assignment is completed.
