Communication

*Communication between parents/guardians and teachers is a vital component in your student’s education.  Please check your student’s agenda each day to find a list of topics and assignments from each class.  You may occasionally receive comments from us in the agenda, and you are welcome to use this as a communication tool as well.

*Be sure to visit our website (www.rockytop.adams12.org) to keep track of daily homework and long-term project assignments.

*The best way to reach us is by email.  Teachers are not available to take telephone calls during the day, but feel free to leave voice mail messages so that we may return your call within 24 hours.

*Please schedule an appointment if you would like to meet with Ms. Bledsoe.  Making arrangements ahead of time will ensure that we are able to devote our time and full attention to you.

Tardy Policy

*Students who are frequently tardy will be assigned a 15 minute detention either before school, after school, or at lunch based on teacher availability and at teacher discretion.  Failure to attend detention will earn an additional 15 minutes and parent contact.

Homework / Daily Work Policy

*The purpose of homework is to practice skills, elaborate on topics introduced in class, and prepare for upcoming topics of study as well as future assessments.

*Some assignments, such as video worksheets, are due immediately after the video, or activity.  You may be excused from the assignment if you have an excused absence, but will still be responsible for getting the information from a classmate or at a study session so that you will be prepared for the future assessment.

*Teachers post topics for daily study and assigned work on the board.  Students are expected to copy classwork and homework assignments into their agendas daily.  Parents may access core homework calendars on the Rocky Top website for further information.

*Daily homework will be assigned Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday only.  All assignments are due the next school day unless the teacher gives a different, specific due date.

Late Work Policy

*When an absence is excused, students shall be given a period of at least the same number of days they were absent plus one additional day to make up missed assignments.  This make up period begins the next school day following the absence.  (Superintendent Policy 2.3.2)

*It is the student’s responsibility to contact the teacher to receive missed work.

*Projects that are assigned prior to a student’s absence are to be turned in on the due date or upon the student’s return date to school.

*For student work to increase learning and serve as an opportunity to show what students have mastered, it is essential that assignments be submitted in a timely manner.  It is also our goal to teach students the importance of effective time management when meeting deadlines.

Grading Scale

A   90 – 100%       B   80 – 89%       C   70 – 79%       D   60 –69%       F   59% & below

*Ms. Bledsoe and parents/guardians will use the practice scores to monitor the student’s learning process and study habits to help determine success of future assessments.

*All students will be given the opportunity to retake quiz and test assessments, provided they have turned in all practice for that current unit, AND have attended a study session for re-teaching.

*If a student consistently and habitually does not turn in practice assignments, then an assessment retake will be based on teacher discretion.  It is the student’s responsibility to monitor his/her own grade and get any missed practice work completed and arrange time with Ms. Bledsoe for student sessions and assessment retakes.

*Students who earn a failing grade for an assessment, will receive a minimum of 50%.

*Any assessment retakes must be completed within one week of the unit completion or before the course is completed.

*If a student earns a lower grade on a retake assessment than originally earned, the final grade will be the one recorded as it is a reflection of the student’s most recent knowledge of the standard or essential learning being assessed.

*Missed food labs will be excused.

*Students can turn practice assignments in late.  However, the last time to do so is prior to the unit test or quiz.

*Note that ALL group projects or tasks, such as food labs, will be represented by an individual grade for each student.

*Assessments and grading standards are applied consistently to students of similarly demonstrated ability.

*Assessments are based solely on demonstrated student progress and achievement of reasonable and clear standards.

*Students are encouraged to be engaged and motivated in the completion of their assignments.

*Parents are encouraged to utilize Infinite Campus on a regular basis so that the student has sufficient time to correct any grade issues in a timely manner and reach their academic goals.

*Extra credit assignments will not be given in order to raise the grade of a student who habitually misses turning in homework or class work, or who fails to take advantage of test retakes, for the sole purpose of raising a student’s grade.  Extra credit is occasionally offered for a particular assignment.  The extra credit must be done and turned in at the time of that assignment in order to get credit for it.  A student will not be allowed to go back and do it later, nor will it be accepted if the assignment is late.

Study Sessions

*Ms. Bledsoe offers regularly scheduled study sessions for students seeking additional explanation of topics covered in class, or re-teaching, on Tuesday and Thursday after school until 4:15 pm.  Students must arrange for their own transportation after these sessions.

*Please contact Ms. Bledsoe the day before attending a study session to make sure no meetings or other teacher activities have been scheduled.  Please see Ms. Bledsoe if the scheduled sessions will not fit your schedule.

Classroom Behavior and Expectations

*Be in your assigned seat, ready to begin work at the start of class.  Be sure to follow your teacher’s instructions the first time they are given.

*Raise your hand and wait to be recognized before speaking.

*Be polite and respectful to all others in the classroom.

*Take ownership of your learning and accept responsibility for your grades and actions.

*Come prepared with your supplies (agenda, paper, and pencil daily).  In addition, any current assignment or handouts should be brought with you every day until it has been turned in for a grade.

*Inappropriate in-class behavior may result in the exclusion of the following food lab, for the safety of your student and their classmates.
